Gardaí have charged a man that was detained as part of a major retail theft operation involving an organised crime gang.
The man, aged in his 40s, was arrested by Gardaí from the Clare/Tipperary region on Monday as part of Operation Táirge, which involved the investigation of multiple thefts by an Eastern European crime gang.
Operation Táirge is part of An Garda Síochána’s Crime Prevention and Reduction Strategy supporting operational activity aimed at detecting and preventing Organised Retail Crime (ORC).
The alleged thefts that the man was arrested in connection with on Monday involve premium alcohol and spirits with an estimated potential loss to the retailers in excess of €30,000.
The man was due to appear before a special sitting of Limerick District Court this morning Wednesday 21st August, 2024 at 9.30am.
Gardaí said in a statement that investigations into the thefts are still ongoing.
