A still from a video seconds before the impact in Boher on the N24
Gardaí are investigating a serious hit-and-run collision which left a man hospitalised due to the severity of his injuries.
It occurred in the village of Boher on the N24 Limerick-Tipperary road shortly after 8pm on Sunday, March 23.
A shocking video of the collision, which has been widely shared on social media, has emerged in recent days.
It shows a vehicle pulling out onto the main road in the direction of Limerick. Seconds later, another vehicle travelling at “ferocious” speed in the 60km zone enters the screen.
The brake lights can be seen on the offending vehicle, thought to be a BMW, but due to its speed it collides into the rear of the car that was on the main road. The force of the collision rams the car into a ditch.

Gardaí, Limerick Fire and Rescue Service and paramedics from the National Ambulance Service all attended at the scene of the incident.
The male driver of the car which ended up in a ditch was rushed to University Hospital Limerick with serious back injuries.
Two men got out of the other vehicle which was previously reportedly stolen in County Clare.

It is believed they were picked up a short time later by another car which pulled in at the scene before speeding off to evade capture before emergency services arrived. There are unconfirmed reports that these two cars may have been racing each other prior to the collision in Boher.
One local told the Limerick Leader that it is “a miracle there wasn’t a fatality”.
“I’ve seen the video and the speed they were driving at was ferocious and criminal. If they had hit the car on its side there is no way the poor man would have survived.
“People also walk and run on that stretch so if there had been anyone on the road they would have been killed stone dead. It was horrendous. I hope the guards get them,” they said.
Detectives in Roxboro Road Garda Station are investigating the hit-and-run.
Anybody with any information on the perpetrators or has dash-cam footage is asked to contact investigating officers on 061-214340.
