Carrick-on-Suir Town Hall, the headquarters of Carrick-on-Suir Municipal District where seven candidates are vying to win five council seats
The sorting votes is getting underway this morning in the Carrick-on-Suir Local Electoral Area election where seven candidates are vying to win five seats on Tipperary County Council.
There are four less candidates running in this electoral area compared to 2019 and five of the candidates are outgoing councillors seeking re-election.
They are Imelda Goldsboro (FF) from Ballingarry, Mark Fitzgerald (FG) from Cloneen, Kevin O'Meara (Ind) from Mullinahone, David Dunne (SF) and Kieran Bourke (FF) both from Carrick-on-Suir town.
Joining them in the battle for a council seat are first time candidates Michael 'Chicken' Brennan of the Labour party, a native of Killenaule living near Fethard and Mullinahone resident Martin Murphy of the Irish Freedom Party.
Voter turnout at a sample of polling stations in Carrick-on-Suir LEA yesterday (Friday, June 7) indicated a turnout of around 58% in this election race, similar to the turnout in this district in 2019.
Due to the small number of candidates, this is expected to be one of the earlier of the Tipperary County Council election counts to conclude this weekend unless a recount is called for any reason.
