Michael Morpurgo, the author of the excellent War Horse, now also a film and stage play, would not have written the book but for conversations he had with a number of old men that he met in his local pub, ex-soldiers from the Great War and others who had been young men.
Nenagh Risings Initiative has set itself the task of faciliting conversation in Nenagh over the next number of years, annually and at other times during the year. This chimes very much with the Initiative on Morals and Ethics being promoted by President Michael D. Higgins.
This year’s event on September 26 is neither commemorative nor remembrance but reflective of the legacies from World War 1 and refecting on ongoing and continuing local and international conflicts today. The speakers are Dr Tom Clonan, Marjorie Quartion, Philip Orr and Padraig Yeates. The evenbt takes place in Nenagh Arts Centre, Friday, September 26, at 7.30pm; admission €5.
