Two first round games in the South Tipp senior hurling championship top a very attractive Easter weekend programme which also includes the O’Donoghue Motor Factors under 21 football (A) championship final postponed from last weekend.
The honour of opening the senior hurling campaign rests with Swan and Killenaule who will cross swords in Kilsheelan on Friday evening at 6-15 p.m. Both sides have been to the fore in the grade down the years and will look forward to the new campaign with some enthusiasm.
They also met in the first round at the same venue a year ago and played an exciting draw. The indications are that this latest clash of the teams will produce another close contest that will be in doubt up to the last whistle.
The championship will be continued at 5-30 p.m. on Saturday evening in Monroe where holders C.J. Kickhams, Mullinahone will begin the defence of their title against Ballingarry.
Mullinahone got a rude awakening in the corresponding fixture last year when defeated by 1-19 to 0-14.
Ballingarry will have strong hopes of repeating that feat but if Kickhams are firing on all cylinders they will be expected to turn the tables on their rivals in a game that should be played in the great tradition of both sides.
