This year’s Hurling All Stars marked the first occasion in the awards’ 42-year history that the Munster senior hurling champions did not receive a single award.
The Leinster champions have received at least one award every year since the scheme began in 1971. It’s the first time since 1998 that Tipperary received no award. It’s also only the second occasion that a county, in this case Galway with 6, received more awards than the champions, Kilkenny who only received 5. The previous occasion when the champions received less than another team was in 1973 when Limerick only received 5 and runners-up, Kilkenny, received 7.
