The under 13 girls created history in Boherlahan, last Saturday, when they became the first Brian Boru’s Camogie Team to win a County Final.

Beaten on only one occasion during their path to the final, the girls saw passed the challenges of Monegal, Arravale Rovers, and their tough semi-final opponents Nenagh Eire Og.

The team that prevented them of a clean sheet to the final was their opposition for the County League Final, Moyle Rovers. On their previous encounter it finished a point to no score in Moyle Rovers favour, but that was not to be the case this time, when it really mattered! This again proved to be a battle of a game both teams evenly match! Brian Borus had majority of possession through the first half but despite the efforts of Helena Walsh, Mary Barrett and Jane Hyland up front we couldn’t get the scores on the board. Moyle Rovers opened the scoring with a point from a free. Good tracking back and hassling and harrying from Fiona Burke and Caoimhe Reidy kept Moyle Rovers to a point, when the half time whistle sounded.

Borus found their feet in the second half, Ciara Hickey supplying ball from the middle of the field to the half forward line where Helena Walsh was cleaning up nicely and exchanging good passes with inside full forward Linda Murphy, but yet again our efforts weren’t to be seen on the scoreboard. Brave defending by Nadia Keating and our captain Norma Morrisey kept the Moyle Rovers Girls out. While Andrea Conway was battling hard at half back. Some excellent clearances by the influential Laura Morrisey, kept Caoimhe Ryan supplied with ball, so she could make her superb runs through the spine of the Moyle Rovers defence. A Ryan run saw a free to Borus, which Ciara Hickey struck beautifully unlucky just to drop short, an alert Linda Murphy pulled on the sliotar which meet the back of the net. A roar erupted from the Brian Borus supporters! Our defence was put under huge pressure but remained composed, cool and collected for the final 10 minutes. Goalkeeper Michelle O’ Halloran kept a clean sheet for the whole game, a good day at the office for any keeper.

As the final whistle went, there was a huge sigh of relief along with great excitement. When Norma Kennedy lifted the plaque it was coming to Brian Borus for the very first time. The first of many!
