Commercials U16 team retained the U16 South Title in Kilsheelan on Saturday last, against a very strong Moyle Rovers team and in the process created history in winning the divisional title for the 5th consecutive year.

From the throw in, this was a very sporting and competitive game. Commercials played with great team spirit and led at half time on a score line of 1-6 to 0-4. While Moyle Rovers battled hard, Commercial’s never say die attitude, contributed to a great finish where they retained their lead, aided by a great penalty save by goalie Liam Powell. The sound of the final whistle was met with huge relief and delight, by the Commercial panel and supporters alike. It would be wrong to single out any player as having contributed more than any other, as this was a great team achievement. Final score Commercials 1-10 Moyle Rovers 0-10.

Lineout: Liam Powell, Matt Barlow, Gavin Ryan, Daragh Phelan, Calvin Boland, Kyle Peters, Cian Fitzgerald, Eoin Hoctor, Jack Kennedy, Dan Ver Der Waal, Michael Morrissey, Ross Peters, Ryan Lambe, Kyle Farrell, Dylan Kennedy Subs: Conor O’Sullivan, Jamie Ahearne, Shane Nee, David Leo, Dean McLoughlin , Adam Peters( Missing for this game Michael O’Reilly,  Keith Fahey, Adam O’Ceallaigh).

Leading by 10 points to 1-04 with seven minutes remaining, all looked good for the seniors in their second county championship game.  However a storming finish from the Éire Óg/Annacarty side saw the men from the west, outscoring Commercials by 1-04 to a point in the closing minutes, as Commercials saw all three league points slip away.  While enjoying some fine periods of possession during the game, Commercials looked possible winners throughout. Unable to breakdown a stubborn defence, Commercials never threatened to goal during the hour and the concession of two goals proved ultimately the team’s undoing.  All is not lost however, and with two more group games remaining, Commercials are more than capable of making amends and qualifying for the latter stages of this competition. Final Scoreline:

Commercials 0-11 Éire Óg/Annacarty 2-8.
