Commercials were crowned South Senior Champions when they defeated Kilsheelan by nine points on a scoreline of 1-12 to 0-6 in Monroe.

Having opened well and playing with the aid of a stiff breeze, Commercials led by 4 points to nil, thanks to scores from points from Ian Fahey, Michael Quinlivan and two from Ian Barnes. Commercials dominated proceedings in the opening 20 minutes and but for some poor shooting and shot selections, should have been further ahead.  At half-time we lead 0-4 to 0-3.

A blistering opening 10 minutes by Commercials put this game beyond reach for Kilsheelan.  With Michael Quinlivan now operating at centre forward and Colman Kennedy gone nearer the goals, Commercials had a better shape in their attack.  Ian Barnes pointed twice in the opening two minutes and further points from Quinlivan and Richie Carroll saw Commercials lead by five points just seven minutes after the restart. Colman Kennedy then struck the decisive goal following great work from Ian Fahey, John Harney and Richie Carroll.

Donal Lynch at full-back was a tower of strength all through the match and was ably assisted by Kevin Fahey and Jamie Peters. Ian Fahey turned in a superb performance at midfield and was duly awarded the “Man of the Match”. In the forwards, John Harney, Richie Carroll, Ian Barnes and Michael Quinlivan stood out.
