Cahir u14 Camogie team continued their winning streak when they won gold medals at the Munster Community games finals in UL on Saturday, July 9.
This team travelled to UL to play the preliminary round against a team from Causeway, County Kerry on the preceding Monday. The Cahir team won this match easily on a scoreline of 6-9 to 2-4. Kirsty Arbuckle and Caral Casey played very well in backs and we had great goalkeeping from Dervla Buckley. Orla Cashman scored a lovely goal after a great pass by Dervla Buckley. Eilis Kennedy also added a point to the scoreboard.
The semi final was played on Saturday against Glanmire Cork. Cahir dominated this game from the beginning.Aisling Moloney scored 4-1 in the first half and was cleaning up in the half back line. Centre field Aoife Corcoran and Caral Casey were superb and were passing the ball into Roisin Howard who was in her usual scoring form and notched up 3-8. Aoife Corcoran scored two fine points from midfield. Jessie West was having a good game in defence and cleared many balls. Cahir scored a total of 7-11 to 2-5.
Cahir advanced to the final where they encountered a team from Clarecastle in County Clare. Cahir proved to be too strong for the Clare team and led at half time by 4-8 to 0-2. Aisling Moloney and Roisin Howard were on fire and scored a total of 5-8 between them. Caral Casey also scored a fine point from play. The defence team of Jessie West, Laura Casey and Kirsty Arbuckle were dominant throughout the match and kept the Clare forwards very quiet. Dervla Buckley was again very skillful in goals and cleared any ball that came her way. Aoife Corcoran and Caral Casey played extremely well and battled for every ball. Shauna Burke, Alissa Keating, Eilis Kennedy and Lauren Noonan all worked very hard in the forward line and helped set up many scores. The younger players of Emma O’Donnell, Orla Cashman, Niamh Murphy and Roisin
McCarthy also played their part and contributed to this great victory. Cahir claimed the Munster title in style beating their Clare opponents by 5-9 to 0-6.Well done to the management team of Mary Howard, Carol Keating, Martin Halpin, Anthony Corcoran and Marie Casey. The Cahir team now advance to the All Ireland Community Games Finals in Athlone on Saturday, August 21.
