Subs Acheson and Carey turn the tide for Moyle Rovers

Moyle Rovers qualified for the final with an eight point win over Grangemockler/Ballyneale in the South IHC semi-final at Clonmel on Saturday evening. Moyle Rovers took the lead in the first half but a great goal from Grangemockler brought them within a point of Rovers at the half time break. It took until the final 20 minutes of the game for Rovers to pull away for the win. It was evident from the throw that it was going to be a tough game of hurling.  After four minutes Rovers midfielder Martin Dunne after fielding some great ball scored the opening point.

Declan Browne pointed from a free and play for Moyle Rovers. Tom Kennedy replied with a point from Grangemockler.  The Rovers half back line of Lee Dunne, Daniel Lyne and Darragh Dwyer were playing great hurling and clearing all that was coming their direction.

Declan Browne added two more points . Grangemockler’s Nigel Cleere, Peter Downey and Enda Fogarty replied scoring a point each. Brian Mulvihill was next to score from play for Moyle Rovers while Declan Browne pointed two more frees. Grangemockler’s Kieran McGuire was playing a fantastic game at centre back and a long ball up the field allowed Enda Fogarty on the edge of the square to pull on the ball in the air and send it straight to the back of the net. That was to be the last score of the first half, Moyle Rovers 0-8 Grangemockler/Ballyneale 1-4. Moyle Rovers substitute at half time Sean Carey made an immediate impact, scoring a point within seconds of the throw in. Declan Browne pointed yet again from a free, while Sean Carey added a third point for Rovers to give them a four point lead. Grangemockler wing back Michael Munnelly scored the first point of the second half.

But within a minutes Conor Fogarty quickly added a second goal to put them level for the first time. At this point of the game it was Moyle Rovers half substitute duo of Sean Carey and Peter Acheson really came into the game. Acheson was moved out to wing forward position and began to field some fantastic ball and was feeding the inside forward pair of Declan Browne and Sean Carey who added five point to Moyle Rovers tally.  Acheson scored another point while Martin Dunne and Brian Mulvihill added a point each to leave 8 points between the sides.

The Moyle Rovers defence did a great job in holding the Grangemockler forwards scoreless for 19 minutes.
