Since its opening fifteen years ago Dr Morris Park in Thurles has been of enormous benefit as a training facility for Tipperary inter-county teams.
Situated beside Semple Stadium, it is one of the best training facilities in the country.
On Sunday, April 1st the third pitch at Dr Morris Park was officially opened by Sean Walsh (chairman of Munster Council) and blessed by His Grace Dr Dermot Clifford (Archbishop of Cashel and Emly).
Also present were Sean Nugent (chairman of Tipperary County Board) and present and past officers of the board.
Sean Walsh, Dr Clifford and Sean Nugent in their addresses all emphasised the importance of Dr Morris Park to Tipperary and the excellent standard of the new sand-based pitch which will be usable in virtually all weather conditions.
The acquisition of land and development of the new pitch has cost approximately E1.6m which has been funded by GAA grants and the Tipperary County Board.
