North Tipperary Senior Hurling Championship: Kildangan 0-15 Roscrea 1-12
Although this reporter’s notes suggested that Kildangan had won Saturday evening’s entertaining encounter in Nenagh by a point referee Michael Murphy was adamant that the game had finished in a draw.
In the 46th minute a David Flynn free appeared to level the match at 1-8 to 0-11, but it was at this juncture that the scoreboard changed from 1-7 to 0-11 to 1-9 to 0-11 thereby presenting Roscrea with a one-point lead.
After the game referee Michael Murphy refused to discuss the issue and declared the game a draw. Ironically Roscrea had a blatant Seán Fitzgerald point inexplicably waved wide in the opening half so in that context perhaps a draw was a fair result.
Kildangan were missing the outstanding Dan Hackett (emigrated), Darragh Egan (injured) and Fergal Hayes (injured), but they found heroes in man of the match Joe Gallagher, Gerry Slattery, Ruairí Gleeson and Tadhg Gallagher. Meanwhile for Roscrea Davin Flynn was terrific, Liam England gave his all and Keith McMahon caught the eye at wing-back.
