Loughmore Castleiney 0-11 Moycarkey Borris 0-8
On Sunday evening last in Templetouhy, Loughmore Castliney saw off the challenge of the division’s newcomers Moycarkey Borris in a hard fought opening round of the championship.
This was a very competitive and enjoyable match up as both sides’ efforts and work rate was of a very high standard making cheap scores very hard to come by. Loughmore in effect secured the game five minutes either side of the half time break. Trailing by one heading into this period they edged ahead just before the break through the excellent free kick taking ability portrayed by Shane Hennessy. The corner forward floated over two frees in the final few minutes of the first half making Moycarkey suffer for lapses in discipline.
Just after the interval Loughmore began sharper and registered through Noel McGrath with a towering right footed effort from 35 yards and a Liam Treacy strike off the left from slightly closer to the goal. This swing either side of the break brought Loughmore into a position of dominance that Moycarkey were unable to overcome and the margin created here was sustained to the finish line for victory.
