An early brace of goals for Drom & Inch provided an insurmountable lead for Upperchurch Drombane to heave their way back from in a rain swept Holycross on Sunday afternoon in the second of the Mid Tipperary Senior Hurling Championship Semi Finals.

Despite a very encouraging start from Upperchurch they were left licking their wounds like a lacerated dog as Drom delved their teeth through the heart the opposition defence in the 10th minute when Seamus Callanan rattled the net. Just two minutes later Seamus Butler crashed home a second goal.

It was Upperchurch that began with gusto as Padraig Greene registered within a minute of the start. They continued to dominate the opening moments as Paul Ryan swept over off his right and Greene added another. Drom then settled and fired home the two goals but Upperchurch reacted as if they were unaffected and continued to chalk up points with two from the impressive LJ

Callanan caused problems from full forward all afternoon and was always out in front showing for possession at the head of the Ragg men’s attack, scoring himself, winning frees and linking up with team mates. At the half time break Drom held the lead on a score of 2-7 to 0-9.

The game continued to ebb and flow in the early moments of the second period with a James Woodlock point being cancelled out by a well taken Matthew Greene effort. Woodlock began to impose himself on the contest with a larger significance as the game opened and opposition legs tired in the heavy conditions. He found space to gallop and fired over four points in total all to keep the opponents threat at a distance. Andy Kinnane impressed for Upperchurch. In the closing stages Drom managed to pull away with scores from Callanan and Woodlock creating the void as the Upperchurch attack lost sharpness and vigour leaving the men from the Ragg in the Mid Final.
