West Junior B Football

Cashel’s Junior B Footballers beat Eire Óg to qualify for the West Final where they will meet Rockwell Rovers.

This was a good win for the lads after being on the end of a heavy defeat to Rockwell in round one they have bounced back in good fashion. Two first half points each from Gavin Manton and Alan Coughlan plus an effort from Kevin O’Sullivan handed Cashel a four point half time advantage leading by 0-5 to 0-1. A second half goal from Jason Connolly put Cashel firmly in the driving seat. Robert White had to be at his best late in the game to deny Eire Og a goal while further points from Coughlan, Michael Ryan and O’Sullivan closed out an impressive win for Cashel.

While a win is win the lads will know they will need to improve things again if they are to get the better of Rockwell but as our intermediates have already shown, a display full of commitment, skill and sheer determination can get you places. Well done to the players on the night for their time and effort, with a final now to look forward to.

Fitzell Stars in Tipperary Glory

Dylan Fitzell created a piece of GAA history when he entered an elite group of players who have managed to win All Ireland Medals in both hurling and football at minor level.

The highs of last years winning minor football team were repeated again on Sunday last as Tipperary got the better of Dublin to deservedly claim All Ireland glory after a replay. Selected at centre forward a position, key to many All Ireland winning teams in any grade, Dylan was pivotal in creating scores and had a hand in many of Tipp’s best moments. Two outstanding aerial catches in the second half were stand out moments and a bone crunching shoulder challenge outlined Dylans commitment for his teams and counties cause. His contribution brought significant praise from none other than Jamesie O’Connor, Daithi O’Regan, Nicholas English and Cyril Farrell in the aftermath of Tipp’s thrilling victory. Also for Simon Delaney a player with huge potential, Simon has been a member of the panel all year and while he didn’t feature on Sunday his elevation to the squad is just reward for dedicated young man. This was a richly deserved success and an immensely proud day for Dylan, Simon, the Fitzell and Delaney family’s and for club and county, well done to the lads on a fantastic success.
