'I'm losing votes before I start' - TD Michael Lowry launches 'difficult' election campaign

Independent TD Michael Lowry has announced his intentions to contest the upcoming general election in South Tipperary, with the politician launching a campaign video online.

In the video, Lowry discussed the upcoming three weeks of "intensive campaigning", and voiced his concerns on losing votes due to the change of constituencies in Tipperary

While the Thurles native was one of the 5 TDs elected in the Tipperary constituency in 2020, the county has now been divided into two separate electoral areas, Tipperary North and Tipperary South. Each will elect three TDs in the upcoming general election, set to take place on November 29th.

In his campaign video, Lowry said that "while it is impossible for me to meet everyone, I will be doing my best to connect with as many people as possible".

"I will take the opportunity to listen and learn. I will follow up with responses and actions to your concerns," the independent TD added.

"For me personally, this is going to be the most difficult election I have ever contested. Because of changes to the constituency boundaries, I'm losing over 5,000 number one votes before I start. Your number one vote will allow me to continue as a hard working, influential and effective voice for the entire constituency".

Lowry has served as a TD since 1987, having previously been a member of Fine Gael until late 1996.
