Carrick-on-Suir’s St Vincent de Paul Christmas Food Appeal delivered more than 100 hampers as well as food and fuel vouchers to the elderly and families in need in Carrick-on-Suir and district.
The St Nicholas/St Molleran’s Conference of St Vincent de Paul in conjunction with local secondary and primary schools ran the appeal.
The conference wrote to all local schools asking if they could come up with fundraising ideas.
The response was overwhelming with more than €5,000 raised by schools in Carrick-on-Suir and its environs.
This money was used to provide more than 100 food hampers, food vouchers and fuel to the needy.
Hampers were supplied and distributed by SuperValu, Carrick-on-Suir.
St Nicholas/St Molleran’s Conference President Michael Lonergan thanked the principals, teachers and students in all the schools and also the parents who took part in the campaign and congratulated them on the magnificent effort they put into raising funds to help those less fortunate in our community.
“It has been a very difficult year that we might all prefer to forget, but the effort and initiative shown by our young people in our schools has to be commended and we in the Conference are very grateful for all their hard work and support,” said Mr Lonergan.
