The storm and foul water drains under Main Street, Carrick-on-Suir (pictured) will be surveyed as part of the project
Underground investigations of the condition of the foul and storm drains in Carrick-on-Suir town centre began on Monday.
Tipperary County Council has sent leaflets to residents and businesses in the town centre advising them there will be some disruption to traffic around the town while this underground CCTV survey is being conducted.
The council said it plans to carry out the survey at night in streets that attract the most traffic to minimise disruption to residents and businesses.
Carrick people are already dealing with traffic disruptions caused by the upgrade of the N24 in the town with one lane of the national route currently closed between O’Mahony Avenue and Ash Park and road diversions in place.
Carrick-on-Suir Municipal District Administrator Marie O’Gorman informed the district’s councillors of the commencement of the project at their monthly meeting in Carrick-on-Suir Town Hall last Thursday.
She said the project will take about five weeks to complete.
The CCTV survey is being carried out to allow Uisce Eireann (formerly Irish Water) and Tipperary County Council ascertain if any upgrades are required to the town’s drainage infrastructure before Carrick-on-Suir Regeneration Scheme projects get underway.
According to the information leaflet the council sent to residents and businesses, the underground CCTV survey is being carried out this week on the North Quay, Greystone Street and Sean Kelly Square.
Next week it will be carried out under Strand Lane and the western side of Main Street and on week three it will take place under Chapel Street, the eastern side of Main Street and Bridge Street.
The survey will be carried out under Castle Street, Castle Lane and Callanan’s Lane during the fourth week and at Strand Walk on the fifth and final week.
