Borrisoleigh's Keelan Chute holds his World Irish Dancing Championship trophy aloft following his win in Montreal

Tipperary Irish dance schools had a number of successes at the World Irish Dance Championships held in Montreal, Canada, last week.

Both the Flynn O’Kane Academy of Irish Dance and the Callanan McLoone O’Meara Academy of Irish Dance took a number of top spots at the event.

Aaron Delaney of the Callanan McLoone O’Meara took first in the Boys U16 championships while Keelan Chute of the Flynn O’Kane academy came first in the U13 event.

Two other dancers from Flynn O'Kane also came up trumps with Aoibhe Twomey taking the U17 title and Lucie Pardy, taking the U13 crown.

The Callanan MacLoone O’Meara academy also had successes in the Mixed U16 Team World Champions; Craig Maher, seventh u16 and world medal holder; Roisín McIntyre, 14th in the u16 and world medal holder; Abbie Mae MgGrath, U16 world recall medal️, and Aine Naughton, U17 world recall medal.

“A gorgeous bunch, a dream to teach and amazing memories along the way,” the academy posted on its Facebook page.

Among those taking top places from the Flynn O’Kane academy were David Nealon, second in the Boys U7; Jade Ryan, fourth, U19 Ladies; Cathal Doughan, fourth, U21; Rachel Cummins, first, Ladies U23; Ewan Kennedy, second, Boys U11.

Meanwhile, Keelan Chute had a triumphant homecoming to Borrisoleigh at the weekend where he performed in the local community hall following a parade through the village led by a piper.

“It is an enormous feat to conquer the world. It’s the culmination of many years of hard work and discipline,” said Deputy Michael Lowry.

He complimented all who assisted with his training and preparation.

Deputy Lowry also praised Keelan’s dad Jimmy and everyone who gave him such fantastic support and encouragement.

“His late mum, Lorraine, is so proud of her lovely young man,” said Deputy Lowry.

Deputy Jackie Cahill also congratulated Keelan on his success.
