Templemore Town Hall project is on track, members at Municipal District Council hear

Templemore town hall

The contracts for the redevelopment of the Templemore Town Hall are expected to be signed in the next week.

That is according to the Director of Services for the Thurles Municipal District Eamon Lonergan at this week’s sitting of Thurles-Templemore Municipal District Council.

He said the hall will have enterprise and culture elements and a space for community groups.
Mr Lonergan said the town library will move to the hall, and the civic area around the hall will also be upgraded. Recently,

Minister for Rural and Community Development Heather Humphreys increased the funding for the project.

Full funding for the project will be in the region of €3million, with Tipperary County Council prepared to match the government spend. “It’s great news all round,” said Mr Lonergan.

Mr Lonergan was responding to a query from councillor Noel Coonan who asked for an update and praised all those involved in the project.

Cllr Eddie Moran said it was “great news for Templemore”.

TOILETS

Also in Templemore, Cllr Moran also asked that public toilets be installed in the town park.

He said the park has been full all last week.

But he said that families, those with disabilities and elderly people do not have access to a toilet while out enjoying the amenity.

Thurles-Templemore District Administrator Sharon Scully said they were looking at a special bathroom with full facilities for those with disabilities as part of the town hall project.

However, Cllr Moran said the town park is a bit away from the hall and would not be suitable. Cllr Noel Coonan suggested an arrangement with the Pitch and Putt might offer an “easy solution”.

But Cllr Moran said it wasn’t open at all times and especially during holidays like Christmas.

District Engineer Thomas Duffy said that neither would the public toilets, which is the case in Dromineer.

Cllr Moran said this was an issue the council would have to resolve. “The town park was full every day last week, and it was great to see.

“It’s going to have to be added at some point,” said Cllr Moran.
