A number of complaints about loud exhausts on cars travelling the streets of Nenagh have been made to local councillor, Hughie McGrath.
Cllr McGrath told the April meeting of Nenagh Municipal District authority that people had told him the noise was waking them up and keeping them awake at night and into the early mornings. He said he had spoken to the local garda Superintendent and the Sergeant-In-Charge about the issue.
He said metres were available to establish if exhausts emitted excessive noise. An initiative could be organised between the Traffic Corps and motorists to test exhausts. “Maybe we could liaise with the gardaí on this.”
Cllr McGrath said many car owners may not be aware of how loud their exhausts are. He could sympathise with such people because he was in a local band that some people over the years had complained was too loud. He did not think the band was too loud, and he was the sound engineer!
