The gardaí and Tipperary County Council have revealed update details on the funeral arrangements for the funeral of Pogues singer Shane MacGowan.
Mr MacGowan's funeral takes place this FRiday with a parade through parts of Dublin city, followed by Requiem Mass inSt Mary of the Rosary Church, Nenagh, at 3.30pm.
Several thousand people are expected to line the streets in both places, with more than 6,000 expected to join a hoost of celebrities for the fuberal Mass in Nenagh.
In a statement issued by the gardaí, they said that they would like to advise the public of a number of traffic restrictions that will be in place as part of Shane MacGowan's procession and funeral in Dublin city centre and Nenagh.
In Dublin, a procession will begin at St Lotts Road, Ringsend, at approximately 11am. It will go across MacMahon Bridge and then on to Pearse Street. It will reach as far as the junction at Lombard Street East and then turns onto Westland Row, onto Fenian Street and will conclude at Denzille Lane at approximately 11.45am.
Gardaí would like to advise anyone who has travel arrangements in Dublin bity between 10.45am and 11.45am to be aware of traffic restrictions that will be in place along the route.
The funeral mass of Shane MacGowan will take place later at St Mary’s of the Rosary Church, Nenagh at 3.30pm.
Following the funeral mass, the public will have the opportunity to pay their respects as the funeral cortege moves through Nenagh town centre from Church Road to Market Cross.
A traffic management plan will be in place for Nenagh Town for the duration of the funeral.
Traffic restrictions will be in operation as follows:
• Church Road, Nenagh will be closed from 8am to 7pm
• Traffic Restrictions will be in place for Kenyon Street, Pearse Street and Nenagh town centre traffic from 2pm to 7pm.
Extra Parking facilities will be available throughout Nenagh Town including:
- On the Limerick side at Éire Óg Nenagh GAA Club and the Old Procter and Gamble factory in Gortlandroe
- On the East side at Nenagh Livestock Mart on Strafford Street
- On the Borrisokane side at Nenagh College on Dromin Road
Tipperary County Council will have information boards to signpost these.
People attending the funeral are asked to follow the diversions and the signage in place for parking arrangements and pedestrian access to Nenagh Town.
