Tipperary County Council is seeking planning permission to develop a new 33 space car park in Carrick-on-Suir to offset the parking spaces that will be lost when Main Street is revamped under the town’s €17.8m Regeneration Scheme.

The Council is proposing to develop the Stable Lane Car Park on a site it owns between Chapel Lane and Stable Lane that it has used for many years as a depot.

If granted permission, the new car park will be just a few minutes walk from Main Street where on-street parking spaces will fall from 56 to 29 when its streetscape is changed as part of Carrick’s Regeneration Scheme that began last month.

The project will include the creation of a vehicular entrance to the west from Chapel Street and a vehicle exit point at Stable Lane to the east.

The Part 8 planning application states the project will also involve the demolition of existing walls, two sheds and a concrete yard within the proposed site.

It will also require the demolition of an existing boundary wall with Chapel Street and north boundary wall adjacent to Chapel Street to allow reconfiguration of the existing vehicle and pedestrian access points onto Chapel Street.

Other works include the demolition of a boundary wall with Stable Lane, drainage works and street lighting for the car park.

It’s also proposed to build a new boundary wall to the east of the site along Stable Lane – including a vehicle exit point and pedestrian access point, and a new boundary wall to the north of the site adjacent to the Chapel Street entrance.

The 33 parking spaces in the new car park will include two accessible parking bays and two electrical vehicle charging bays. A bicycle parking shelter is also proposed.

The council plans a new asphalt surface finish to the car park with surface water run-off directed to gullies. Landscaping is also proposed.

Plans for the proposed Stable Lane Car Park went on public display at Carrick-on-Suir Municipal District’s offices at Carrick-on-Suir Town Hall, New Street, Carrick on December 7 and remains available for inspection there until Friday, January 12.
