More than €52 million has been spent on projects in Tipperary's largest town since 2019

A further 154 houses are in the pipeline in the Clonmel district, costing in the region of €46 million

More than €52 million has been spent on operations and projects in the Clonmel Borough District area in the past five years, it was announced at a meeting of the Borough District.

In a detailed report of the work carried out in the Clonmel area since 2019, District Administrator Carol Creighton said that this figure of €52,337,865 doesn’t include approximately €25 million spent on the construction of 101 houses.

A further 154 houses are in the pipeline under the Housing for All 2022 -2026 programme, costing in the region of €46 million.
An overall housing investment of €5,144,705 has been made within the local economy in Clonmel over the last five years.

Since 2019, the restoration of 100 properties has brought them up to modern building regulations to achieve C1 BER (Building Energy Rating) within a timeframe of 13 weeks, rather than 26 weeks.

In terms of housing maintenance, Ms Creighton said that over 1,000 properties are being managed in Clonmel Borough District, with a further 154 coming on stream within the next two years (Housing for All).

Approximately 11,000 maintenance issues have been logged on iHouse and dealt with in the past five years, with a total investment of approximately €4,186,591 in the past five years.

The total investment in roads infrastructure since 2019 is €23,932,012. This includes resurfacing and restoration programme, €6,813,332; Active Travel projects, €1,188,000; safety schemes, €316,000; bridges, €615,087; public lighting, €319,000 (maintenance) and PLEEP (Public Lighting Energy Efficient Project) €700,000; footpaths and drainage, €821,960 and €504,192; town road works, €6,004,555 and OPW flood schemes, €1,565,319.

€1,571,880 had been invested in the area of Community and Development.

“Festivals and events are essential for the town of Clonmel in driving tourism, showcasing cultural heritage and promoting the arts,” said Carol Creighton.

The total cost of the Kickham Barracks project is just over €11 million.

This total of €11,156,250 includes the completion of the plaza and the second stage, which will feature the – TETB/TUS integrated campus, the design stages and new Garda station; the servicing of the site, the development of internal car parks and the Davis Road car park, as well as Kickham Chapel, the creative space developed in conjunction with the Arts Centre.

There was a total investment of €7,766,531 in the Regional Sports Hub, which was officially opened by then Taoiseach Leo Varadkar last June.

The total envisaged cost of the Clonmel Public Realm Project is €20 million.

A funding application is with the Department of the Environment for this shovel-ready project, which the District Administrator said aims to “rejuvenate Clonmel’s streets and enhance the quality of life in Clonmel, resulting in a vibrant, culturally rich and revitalised town”.

District Mayor Richie Molloy thanked Carol Creighton for the “huge amount of work” completed in the district over the past five years.

Similar sentiments were expressed by the other council members.
