A councillor has demanded action to end the water supply outages affecting residents in parts of Moyglass and Ballinure nightly over the last few months.
Ballingarry Cllr Imelda Goldsboro called on Carrick Municipal District to write to the Munster Regional Manager of Uisce Éireann to get the difficulties with the water supply serving residents in elevated parts of these two communities urgently investigated and resolved.
She issued the call at the final monthly meeting of Carrick Municipal District before the local elections.
The Fianna Fáil councillor said this was a major issue ongoing over the last six months and it was impacting residents in the Grangebarry, Arbour Hill, Silver Fort areas of Moyglass and parts of Ballinure. They were left without water between 5pm and 12 midnight. Water supply outages also happen at other times of the day.
She pointed out that residents affected by the water outages include elderly and vulnerable people, young families and farmers.
They were not able to fill kettles, do washing or have showers during these water outages.
“This has become a nightmare for the people living in this area. It’s a basic service and I am looking for your support to write to the Munster Regional Manager to see if this can be looked at as a matter of urgency and that these people are treated with the respect they deserve,” she declared.
Cllr Goldsboro said work was carried out to improve the water supply in Ballinard but the demand for water appeared to be exceeding the supply.
Cllr David Dunne seconded her call and it was agreed to write to Uisce Éireann seeking action on the problem.
