Con Traas of The Apple Farm who won an award at the event
Tipperary's The Apple Farm won a prestigious award at the 2024 Euro-Toques Food Awards which took place in Dublin last night.
The Euro-Toques Food Awards have annually recognised and celebrated the finest foods produced across Ireland.
Chef Conor Halpenny, Head of the Euro-Toques Food Council, emphasised the vital role of small artisan producers in shaping Ireland's culinary landscape.
“Our mission is more than just celebrating excellence—it’s about raising awareness of the incredible work being done by small producers who are the backbone of our food culture".
The Apple Farm which is based in Cahir won in the land category of the awards for "their outstanding apples and their contribution to the protection of Irish heritage and biodiversity".
This family business was founded by Willem and Ali Traas who moved from the Netherlands in the late 1960s.
The farm is now owned by their son Con who lecturers in the University of Limerick on horticulture and sustainable agriculture.
