Shane Grogan of Tipperary County Council, who holds responsibility for town regeneration, vacancy and dereliction has confirmed that a new team will be formed in the new year to focus solely on derelict sites.
Mr. Grogan confirmed the news at the Tipperary/Cahir/Cashel December meeting this month. “The team was formed with two vacant homes officers, and a number of administrative staff.
“We will now be getting a specific person to take over the derelict sites. The two vacant homes officers have been working on that significant workload over from housing , they’ve been focussing on that for the past few months.

“I’m delighted to say we have gotten the name of a person to fill the role to support the derelict sites register, which we’ve just taken over from the Environment section, from January onwards we’ll have a dedicated team of two staff members focussing on derelict sites full time.
“They will look at derelict sites throughout the whole of Tipperary” said Mr. Grogan.
He also let the meeting know that if anyone would like to provide information on derelict sites please absolutely do so as it will be helpful to the new team.
Initially this team will be focussing on just what’s on the derelict sites register but obviously if anyone is aware of issues please let the team know. “All of the councillors have eyes and contacts on the ground so if you’re aware of any sites please let us know.
“Going forward there will now be an extreme focus on derelict sites from 2025 onwards and we will be pursuing everything on the register first” concluded Mr. Grogan at the meeting held in Tipperary Town in December. The creation of this new team will allow more owners of derelict properties to be pursued by the council.
