Tipperary town is in for a jobs boost with the news that a new Applegreen Service Station and 'Subway' restaurant are to occupy the Pierse Motors Service Station on Davitt Street. Cllr Denis Leahy said the company is now recruiting for staff, creating up to 10 local jobs. It's understood Apache Pizza are also opening in Tipp town. However, more needs to be done to help struggling shops on the Main Street. Kinane's Mens Shop has closed recently following the death of William Kinane. Xtravision is also closing on the Main Street with the loss of 3 or 4 jobs. Cllr Leahy said the nature of the retail industry has changed, but more can be done to increase footfall. Cllr Leahy said the absence of pay parking in town has really encouraged shoppers to return this Christmas. “They have come back in their droves. This seems to be the catalyst that brings the people back into the town.”
