BREAKING: 'Unrest' in Tipperary tourist town overnight sparks huge concerns locally

Local Councillor Liam Browne condemns events and warns coordinated action is needed

BREAKING: 'Unrest' in Tipperary tourist town overnight sparks huge concerns locally

A series of reported disturbances in Cashel overnight has left the local community unsettled.

According to local representative Councillor Liam Browne, the incidents included multiple break-ins, threats to business staff, and an episode of serious violence in a housing estate.

Councillor Liam Browne, who has been in contact with residents throughout the morning, confirmed that video evidence of some of the reported incidents has been shared with him, but emphasised that it is now part of an ongoing Garda investigation.

“I won’t be posting the videos, as they are now part of a Garda investigation, which I don’t want to interfere with, but they are being passed on,” Councillor Browne stated.

He also expressed frustration over the regularity of such events. “As a local representative, I wholeheartedly condemn what happened, but frankly am sick of having to write updates like this, because it is too regular an occurrence,” he wrote.

Councillor Browne described the problem as being caused by a small group of individuals indifferent to the wider community.

“The problems are caused by a small number of people, who frankly couldn’t care less about the trouble they are causing, and are being allowed to get away with this, because the solution lies in co-operation between a large number of organisations who cannot or will not get to the root of the problem,” he said.

He called for coordinated action involving multiple bodies, including the Gardai, Council, Approved Housing Bodies, Tusla, and local and national elected representatives.

“It will take a concerted effort between Gardai, Council, Approved Housing Bodies, Tusla, local and national elected representatives and other groups,” he said.

Councillor Browne added that he intends to raise the matter at the next Municipal District meeting on Monday.
