The talk, titled "Fluttering in the Dovecotes", will take place on Friday January 23 at 8pm and will examine the role of dovecotes, or pigeon houses, during the medieval and early modern periods.

Drawing on examples from across the Midlands, including Tipperary and Galway, the presentation will consider how these structures were used and what they represented within rural society.

Dr Cunniffe will outline the practical and symbolic importance of dovecotes, which served as a source of food while also acting as visible markers of status and authority.

Attention will also be given to their architectural forms and how these varied across regions and time periods.

The event will be held in The Shed at The Friars Tavern in Lorrha. Admission is €5 and no advance booking is required.
