Celebrations began early in the afternoon in the Plaza where local band FERNS entertained the crowd from 2pm until the start of the parade.

The band – made up of Calum Laverty (lead vocals), Cameron Quirke (lead guitar), Sofia Bondarenko (rhythm guitar), Jack Nugent (bass) and Jack Dooley (drums) – provided an energetic soundtrack for those who gathered ahead of the parade.

With the sun shining and clear blue skies overhead, conditions could not have been better for the event as spectators lined the streets in large numbers to enjoy the afternoon’s festivities.

The parade itself set off at 4.30pm from the Cahir Road, making its way through Boherclough, along Main Street and finishing on Friar Street. The route drew large crowds who turned out to watch a colourful display of music, marching bands and local organisations.

Among those attending were local public representatives including Mattie McGrath TD, Seamus Healy TD and Michael Murphy TD.

Also present on the day was Marie Devitt of Rosegreen, who was recently named the 2026 Cashel Person of the Year by the Cashel Lions Club, Marie Devitt was the Grand Marshall of the Cashel parade.

Ms Devitt, the 41st recipient of the honour, attended the parade celebrations and was warmly acknowledged by many in the crowd following her recent recognition.

Local councillors also in attendance included Declan Burgess, Liam Browne, John Crosse and Cllr Roger Kennedy, Cathaoirleach of the Tipperary Cahir Cashel Municipal District.

Cllr Burgess, who also served on the organising committee, took on the role of master of ceremonies for the event, announcing each group as they made their way through the town.

His lively and engaging commentary added greatly to the atmosphere on the day, keeping the crowd entertained and informed throughout the parade and ensuring every participating group received a warm welcome from spectators.

Music played a central role in this year’s parade, with visiting bands adding to the atmosphere. The Clondalkin Youth Band and the Finglas Concert and Marching Band travelled to Cashel to take part in the celebrations, bringing vibrant music and energy to the streets.

Their travel costs were generously covered by Amneal Pharmaceuticals, a major local employer. They were joined by Cashel’s own St Patrick’s Brass Band and the Dr Diarmuid O’Hurley Pipe Band, both of which received warm applause from the crowd.

The historic St Patrick’s Brass Band, which is celebrating over 170 years in existence, took part proudly in the parade and used the occasion to encourage new members to join the group.

A wide variety of local organisations, clubs and schools also participated, highlighting the strong community spirit within the town and surrounding areas.

Groups taking part included Cashel King Cormacs GAA Club, Burgess School of Irish Dance, Cashel Arts Festival, Tipperary Scouts, St John the Baptist Girls School, Cashel Rugby Club, Cashel for Palestine, Cashel Lions Club – who showcased their new bus for the day care centre – and St John the Baptist Boys National School.

Environmental pride was also on display with Cashel Tidy Towns proudly highlighting their gold medal winning achievement. Sporting groups from across the region were represented including Rosegreen GAA, Boherlahan Dualla Camogie Club and Golden Kilfeacle GAA Club.

A special moment during the parade saw an announcement recognising Kevin Buckley of Cashel Handball Club, who had won an All-Ireland championship title on the day during the parade, drawing cheers from spectators along the route.

Entertainment also came in the form of a creative entry from the Cashel Choral and Dramatic Society, who staged a “Reeling in the Years”-style display based on the theme of 100 years of celebrating Irish radio, which served as the overall theme for this year’s parade.

Members of An Garda Síochána were also present throughout the event helping ensure the celebrations ran smoothly.

Gardaí thanked everyone who came out to support the event, noting that Trainee Garda Doyle and Trainee Garda O’Dwyer would always remember their first St Patrick’s Day serving with An Garda Síochána in Cashel.

The parade organising committee also extended special thanks to the Cashel Order of Malta who were on hand throughout the day in case of any emergencies. The committee expressed their appreciation for the dedication and support these volunteers provide to the local community.
