Tipperary is bracing itself for the July 1st introduction of pay-by-weight refuse collection, but there are major fears of largescale illegal dumping occurring in the picturesque countryside, writes Noel Dundon.
Householders availing of the services of waste collectors will be using three bins with a minimum price per kilo of waste having been set. However, no maximum price has been enshrined in legislation and members of Tipperary County Council have called for a letter to be sent to the Department of the Environment insisting that a maximum price per kilo be agreed. Otherwise, waste companies can charge what they like, some members have stated.
