Nenagh athlete Orla Hogan is looking forward to her eight appearance for Ireland at an international transplant games.
Orla, who is originally from Ballycommon, but who now lives in the town with her husband, Ger, will jet out to the 9th European Transplant & Dialysis Sports Championships in, Vantaa, Finland, which take place from July 10 to 17.
Orla will participate in a 5km and 3km walk events, ball throw as well as in swimming in the 50m breastroke and freestyle.
“Being part of Transplant Team Ireland has opened up great opportunities for me and I have made great friends from other parts of the world. It is great to be able to take part in these Games and represent Ireland. The people who make up Transplant Team Ireland are great fun and like a second family to me. The Games are a great way for us to celebrate life and say thanks to our donors as they are so important,” said Orla.
Orla has undergone four transplants, her first in 1991 and her most recent from her donor brother took place in 2008 which she says "is still going strong".
Orla, who has five siblings, works at Suaimhneas Cancer Support Centre.
