BoyleSports, Ireland’s largest independent bookmaker, has acquired a number of Hacketts outlets from the High-Court-appointed liquidators, Ken Tyrrell and Declan McDonald of PwC.
The stores, which will be reopened immediately, are at Cashel (Co Tipperary), Callan (Co Kilkenny), Mountmellick (Co Laois) and Rathkeale (Co Limerick).
Each of the four stores will be rebranded as BoyleSports outlets. Boylesports is currently rolling out a €4m, three-year renovation programme across its estate. The newly-acquired shops will now be included in that programme. This will include the installation of a suite of new screens and free wi-fi facilities so that new and existing Hacketts customers at each of the outlets can enjoy the full range of BoyleSports products in the modern comfort which BoyleSports customers have come to expect.
This acquisition brings the number of BoyleSports outlets in Ireland, both North and South, to 212.
Jenna Boyle, Head of Retail at Boylesports, said:
“We were saddened by the liquidation of Hacketts, which has been an integral part of the Irish bookmaking landscape for over 50 years. At a retail level the Irish bookmaking sector is the most competitive in the world.
“We would like to welcome our new customers of these four stores to the BoyleSports estate. As well as having the widest range of betting opportunities and the most comfortable surroundings of any betting chain, our new customers can look forward to getting the most competitive prices available in the market.”
