Thurles bike tour raises €2,765 for lifesaving causes in rural Malawi

A cheque presentation in aid of life-saving wells in rural Malawi, was made on Wednesday night (August 4) at the Maxol Service Station on the road leading to the Horse and Jockey from Thurles.

The charity fundraising event took place on July 3rd when some 60 bikes left from the Maxol Service Station and went on a tour of the high ways and byways of Tipperary.

They finished up that evening in Dromineer where they went on a boat trip. The event was organised by Tom and Dan Tynan from Road Awareness Motorcycle Training based in Thurles and refreshments were kindly sponsored by Liam Carroll.

On behalf of Wells for Zoe ( we would like to thank everyone who took part. Some €2,765.50 was raised, and this money will go towards installing 11 brand new water wells in rural villages in Malawi.

Alternatively the funds will go to repair 20 old wells where we can put in a new pump. 100% of the money raised will go directly to Malawi.

One of the organisers, Jacquie Ryan, is travelling to Malawi on January 2nd next for a year, completely self funded and voluntary. We wish Jacquie all the best in her once-in-a-lifetime adventure!
