Company set to lodge plans for €30m Knock / Roscrea solar farm with council

The Tipperary Star understands that the company behind a massive solar farm proposal at Knock, Roscrea, is to submit its planning application to Tipperary County Council next week.

Island Green Power is proposing to build a €30m green energy plant on a 148-acre site at Leonard's Bog, Derrymore, that would be 50 times the size of Semple Stadium in Thurles with the potential to power 5,000 homes. The site would consist of 119,000 solar panels.

The application will be lodged following months of consultations with the local community, Tipperary County Council and others.

However, when ever the plans are lodged, there are bound to be objections from local residents if the reaction to the plan is anything to go by following a sometimes acrimonious public consultation in Knock in July.
