Music, dance, art and fun at Cashel Arts Festival

From taking a tour of Cashel to hear tales of horrible histories, to sitting back and enjoying beautiful music - this year's Cashel Arts Festival is set to have something for all ages and interests.

The exciting headline act this year is the singer songwriter Ralph McTell - most famous for his song 'The Streets of London.' The festival's headliner will be appearing in Cashel fresh from his successful performance at this summer's Glastonbury festival. See him at Brú Ború on Saturday, September 17.

The reknowned Vanburgh Quartet will close the festival with a flourish, to the fabulous backdrop of the Rock of Cashel.

Between September 15 and 18, this year's Arts Festival will include visual artists, street performers, musicians, dance and puppet shows from Thursday to Sunday. For those looking for a hands-on arts experoience there will be many, varied workshops including choral masterclasses, wood turning, fused glass, basket, animation, harvest crafts and as well Elke Wilson’s exciting choice of art workshops for children.

The festival will celebrate Irish language and culture, with a special focus this year on the centenary of 1916.

The Cashel Arts Festival can always be guaranteed to schedule interesting events -this year you can see sand sculpting, hear how you can become an illustrator or watch a dance battle!

During the Festival keep an eye out for local shop windows, as local artists have been commissioned to paint black and white scenes reflecting the historical use of the premises.

On Friday, September 16, celebrate Culture Night with a free, on-street performance from the fabulous Wexford Buí Bolg.

The whole family can dress up in 17th century costume for the Horrible Histories tour! Your task will be to prevent intruders and attackers plotting to destroy Cashel! The tour will recreate

actual scenes and scenarios from the Corporation records. Gather replica militaria (weapons, insignias, buttons) along the way in this family friendly event!

There are so many exciting events taking place during this year's festival we can only mention a few. We urge you to pick up a copy of the Arts Festival brochure (or download it from the Festival website) to find out about the many, many more events taking place!
