What's On in Tipperary this weekend

There's plenty to entertain people in Tipperary this weekend.

A lot of what's on centres on Culture Night this Friday.

However there's a lot more, from music recitals, fresh walks, museum visits and interesting talks.

Here's a flavour of what to do in Tipperary over the coming days.

55 Social Club

The next night of the 55 Social Club will be held in The Coachman, Parnell Street, Clonmel on this Friday September 16th.

Music will be played by The Piano Man.

The committee looks forward to seeing past and present members and friends.

Clonmel Movie

The first screenings of the film 'The Cormack Brothers - Murder in Tipp' by Alan Brown Blue Sox Entertainment from Nenagh will take place in the South Tipp Arts Centre in Nelson Street, Clonmel at 11.30am and 7pm on this Friday, September 16th as part of Culture Night.Admission is free but booking is essential, as space is limited.

Old sliothars expo

Ireland's oldest hurling balls and hurley are now on display at the County Museum in Clonmel in the Hair Hurling Balls exhibition, which continues until October 23rd.

County Museum recital

Highly-acclaimed musical ensemble Sonamus will perform a free concert at the County Museum, Clonmel at 8pm on this Friday, September 16.

This special Culture Night performance will feature music that was enjoyed by all strata of Irish society from the 17th century to the present day, and reflects Ireland's extraordinarily broad musical heritage.

The concert will feature compositions by Cormac Breathnach, Roger Doyle and Donal Lunny; traditional music, 17th century Baroque music from France and Ireland, Irish harp tunes and romantic arrangements of Irish traditional music.

Open Mic in Carrick-on-Suir

Poets, musicians, singers and songwriters are invited to showcase their talent at the "open-mic" session after the Culture Night evening of poetry and song at the Nano Nagle Centre Chapel in Carrick-on-Suir this Friday, September 16.

Well-known poet and author Grace Wells, and musicians and songwriters Breege Phelan and Will McLellan (pictured) will swap songs and poetry during the main concert, which starts at 8pm and is free to the public.

Doors open at 7.30pm and all are welcome. The concert is supported by Tipperary County Council Arts Office, Culture Night 2016 and the Tudor Artisan Hub.

Mid Tipp Hillwalkers

This coming Sunday, Mid Tipp Hillwalkers A and B walks leave from opposite the fire station in Cashel at 11am and, as always, new walkers are welcome.

The B walks, which are a new addition to our programme, will be of 4-5 hours duration on mountain terrain and might reach the high peaks.

They will be at a slightly slower pace and a bit shorter than A walks, and will depart Cashel every alternate Sunday at 11am.

Cahir Tradfest

The ‘Tradfest’ takes place for the second year in Cahir on this weekend from Friday 16th -18th September with prearranged sessions at The Piper statue and Cahir Castle on Friday.

It's a fantastic opportunity for musicians from near and far to come together and perform all round town and for people to enjoy Traditional Music at its best.

Cahir lecture

Cahir Social and Historical Society will host a lecture by Maurice Casey on the life of a native of Ballydrehid, David Fitzgerald (1897 - 1933).

The lecture will commence at 8pm in Cahir House Hotel on Saturday the 17th September, 2016. Admission is €3 for Members and €5 for Non-Members. All welcome.

Fethard social dancing

Dancing on Sunday Night, September 18, to the music of ‘Dave Rea’. All welcome to come along and enjoy a great night’s entertainment and social dancing from 9pm to midnight. Admission is €8 .

Clogheen Coffee Morning

The annual Bewleys coffee morning in aid of Hospice Ireland will take place at Georgina Ferguson's home, Lower Main Street, Clogheen this Saturday 17th September from 10am to 1pm. 1890 717 000. All are welcome.

Hollyford Hillfest

Hollyford Community have come together and organised Hollyford Hillfest, a weekend of fun for all for this coming weekend (September 16th through 18th)!

Bansha Coffee Morning

Templeneiry Church will host a Coffee Morning this Sunday September 18th from 9.30am to 1pm in aid of South ‘Tipperary Hospice, as part of Ireland’s biggest coffee morning for Hospice. Raffle on the day. Please support for this very worthy cause.

Crocanoir marks Culture Night

Culture Night in Mullinahone will be marked at Crocanoir. This is also the 10th Anniversary of Crocanoir, so a double celebration is on hand. Friday night in Crocanoir will feature Kilkenny seanachai Jim Maher with his vivid observations on country life.

Author John Fogarty from Fethard will give a reading from his novel “Scenes from an Indian Summer”. This novel is a Tipperary book of the year winner. Harpist Siobhan Hall from Drangan, will also play.

Men's Shed launch

Glengoole's Men's Shed will hold their official launch on this Friday September 16th at 2.30. in the centre. All are welcome. The shed is always open to new members.
