'Long table' charity dining experience for Gortnahoe

A unique fundraiser for the Millennium Meals on Wheels service is to take place next Friday (30th September) at 7.30 pm, in Glengoole near Thurles.

This a unique opportunity to sample the best of locally grown and produced food while supporting the Meals on Wheels Service.

This service prepares and delivers over 100 meals every week while also providing an important social contact for older adults in the Slieveardagh area.

The service is almost completely self-supporting with minimum input from the HSE. Referrals for meals on wheels come from various sources, including families, GPs and Public Health Nurses locally.

“Keeping a vehicle on the road is one of the many challenges facing a rural service such as this and all funds raised on the night will go towards improving and expanding the service,” says organiser Clare Cashman.

The event will take place in the Millennium Family Resource Centre in Glengoole and will provide an opportunity for locals who have never been in need of any of the Centre’s services to come along and see what we do.

Tickets are €30 for a four-course meal. Booking is essential as places are limited. Raffle on the night. Contact 052 9157992 for more information.

Millennium Family Resource Centre provides a wide range of services including Family Support through Parent Support Drop in Service & Parenting Programmes, Preschool Childcare & After-schools Homework Club, Brothers of Charity Disability Services, Low Cost Counselling, Play Therapy & Rainbows Programme for children who are suffering loss through bereavement or separation/divorce, Eldercare Programme including Senior Social Club, Chiropodist and Meals on Wheels service, Community Education Programme, Breastfeeding Support Group, Information Provision across a wide range of issues and also room and facility hire including a fully equipped catering kitchen.
