Cashel has been chosen for a zero waste project, it was announced at the Cashel-Tipperary Municipal District monthly meeting on Monday 26 September.
The pilot, a collaboration between environmental charity VOICE and the Southern Region Waste Management Office (SRWMO), aims to “re-engage people with better recycling,” waste prevention co-ordinator at the SRWMO, Pauline McDonogh, explained.
Ms. McDonogh portrayed Cashel as the “perfect size and location” for the 12-18 month pilot, while also acknowledging the support of Fine Gael’s Tom Hayes in securing the pilot for the town.
“The pilot is just starting out and funding has been applied for from the Environmental Protection Agency under the Green Enterprises project. We will know within a week if we have been successful or not,” she underlined.
