Strength is ... a 5-year old beating-out cancer with a smile on her face. Little Róisín Price from Tipperary Town now in Phase 5 of her chemotherapy treatment for Leukemia.
As we approach Christmas a special donation appeal has been re-launched for 5-year old Róisín Price from Tipperary town, who has leukemia.
In February 2015, at three years of age Róisín was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia (A.L.L.) and is receiving a combination of different chemotherapy drugs given orally, intravenously, intramuscular and intrathecal, which is done using lumbar puncture. She receives most of her chemotherapy in Our Lady's Children’s Hospital Crumlin and certain ones in South Tipperary General Hospital.
There are five phases of Róisín’s treatment: induction, consolidation, interim maintenance, delayed intensification and maintenance. Róisín is now on Phase 5 and altogether the treatment programme takes two and a half years and maintenance for another 2 years.
Throughout the treatment, Róisín has regular bone marrow tests to see how she is progressing.
Last year Róisín’s mother Cora appealed to the public to donate blood in a front-page article in ‘The Nationalist’.
At the same time, with the full support of Tipp Mid West radio, donation buckets were dotted in shops around the town to help affray the travel costs of the family.
As we approach Christmas 2016, Róisín is still undergoing treatment and is still struggling with her illness and also has an Autism Spectrum Disorder (A.S.D.) and faces many battles everyday without having leukemia as well.
It's been a long, hard journey for little Róisín and her family and with continued weekly trips to Our Lady's Children’s hospital Crumlin and Clonmel. Therefore, the Donate to Róisín appeal is once again up and running to again help affray travel costs.
Donation buckets have been place in Wellworths, Byrnes Spar shop Main Street, Danny Ryan Music Shop and Tipp Mid West radio. Please donate if you can… every little helps.
Clubs or organisations are also welcome to raise money for this cause with fundraisers.
