Clonmel pupils release new album for the Christmas market

St. Mary's CBS choir have a new album out for Christmas.

St Mary’s C.B.S., Clonmel pupils have released a new CD in time for the Christmas market.

“Do you hear what I hear?  is the culmination of many months work and has something for everybody.

St. Mary’s CBS has a long and proud tradition of music, song and drama.

Says  Principal Eóin Morrissey  -  “We are delighted to release this collection of songs, our first album of music reflecting the life of our school. Our sound has developed a lot in the last few years and the fruits of the great work of both staff and pupils of the school can be heard on this CD”.

The all boys’ choir has been up and running for several years with Mary Adamson as musical director and Fidelma Collins as accompanist.

The choir consists of boys from 3rd to 6th class who audition for places each September. They have a large repertoire and are well accustomed to singing for the public.  They sing regularly in St. Mary’s church for the Communion programme masses, and every year they accompany the Holy Communion or Penance services.

They have sung at various concerts and charity events and were privileged to sing with The Three Tenors at the Clonmel Park hotel in 2015. Last Easter 2017 the choir performed in our school musical ‘Godspell’. This was a huge production with over 1500 people getting to see the show which took place in St. Mary’s church over three days. Preparations are already afoot to produce another musical theatre extravaganza – The Lion King – in May of 2018. This promises to be one to look forward to.

Christmas is always a busy time for the choir, singing in town or for our elderly neighbours at the Day Care Centre. For the last few years the boys have been a popular item at St. Mary’s parish annual carol service where they sing along side St. Mary’s senior choir and Banna Chluain Meala.

Our choir forms the main part of the CD with a selection of festive favourites such as Walking in the Air, O Holy Night and Little Drummer Boy among others. The choir are also responsible for some other pieces – a mix of secular and sacred arrangements. The school’s recent production of Godspell also features with a number of solo and chorus pieces from the show. St. Mary’s CBS céilí band has been going from strength to strength in recent years under the direction and guidance of Ms. Danielle Lonergan and Ms. Elaine Morrison. They take part in the St. They feature in the CD with some rousing renditions of pieces such as ‘The Rattling Bog’ and ‘I’ll tell me ma’. It must be noted that all thirty one pieces on the CD were recorded over a day and a half.

CDs, at a cost of €10 will be on sale in the lead up to Christmas. Please contact the school on 0526121594 to order your copy. It would make a lovely Christmas present for relatives and friends.
