Ormond Castle 'weathers' Storm Emma

Ormond Castle in Carrick on Suir

Carrick on Suir’s Ormond Castle hit the headlines after Storm Emma when a photograph ‘did the rounds on social media’ where it appeared the rendering had started to deteriorate.

We’re delighted to report that Ormond Castle is, however, looking well this week and no damage has in fact been caused to the landmark building – as can be seen in the photograph above, taken on Monday.

Ormond Castle was reopened last summer following extensive refurbishment. Visitors were welcomed back after the building had closed for two and a half years and an investment of an estimated €750,0000.

Minister of State for the OPW Kevin 'Boxer' Moran performed the official opening, last July, and praised OPW staff for the great job they did  restoring the Castle to its original splendour. "The project that has been carried out is a significant achievement and a testament to the skill of the OPW staff and apprentices that worked on it," he said.

Thousands are expected to flock to Carrick on Suir this St Patrick’s Day when a fabulous fireworks display is planned for the sky over Ormond Castle.

The Castle is the finish point for this year's parade and backdrop for the fireworks extravaganza as "St Patrick meets the Tudors" is the parade's  theme.
