A punter in County Tipperary made it a Cheltenham to remember when they picked four winners on day one of the Festival and landed over €10,000.
The customer swooped on the early prices at a BoyleSports shop in the Premier County and put the four horses into a €3 Lucky 15. Their bet got off to the perfect start when Lizzie Kelly became the first professional female jockey to win a race at the Festival guiding 5/1 Coo Star Sivola to the narrowest of victories in the 2.50.
With the Willie Mullins pair of Benie Des Dieux (9/2) and Rathvinden (6/1) obliging in between, the final leg of the bet rested on Mister Whitaker in the final race of the day which produced a nervous wait for the bet to click.
The customer was made to sweat after a thrilling finale required a photo to separate Mister Whitaker and Rather Be, with the 8/1 selection edging it by a head and sending a total of €10,914 into the pocket of the lucky punter.
Lawrence Lyons, Spokesperson for BoyleSports said: “It was a rollercoaster day for us to open the Festival but one Tipp punter served us a blow in the last race by landing their fourth winner of the day which cost us just short of €11,000.”
He added: “Picking Cheltenham winners can be a tough task with so many top class horses in action but picking four in one day was a great call so we can only say bravo and send huge congratulations to the customer on their big win.”
