Clonmel found several great voices during concert series

​The Finding a Voice Concert Series, ​which took place in various locations around Clonmel last ​week, ​was a resounding success​.

​Clíona Maher, Manager of the South Tipp Arts Centre, said they had 60 performers over the three days, playing the music of more than forty women composers, “four of whom we were delighted to welcome to Clonmel. 

“The response was extremely positive and we’re looking forward to making this an annual event.”

Curator Róisín Maher said “we had one amazing performance after another over the course of the three days. It’s impossible to pick out any one highlight, but being able to hear so much incredible music by so many different and talented women was just wonderful."

Finding a Voice was supported by a music project award from the Arts Council and took place in various venues in the town.

Finding a Voice was a showcase of music by women composers through the ages. The series was bookended by performances from Voice, a vocal trio from the UK;​ and an exhilarating final concert double-headed by cellist Kate Ellis and pianist Isabelle O’Connell. 

Other featured artists included the RTÉ ConTempo Quartet, Ensemble Dagda, Marie​ ​Lemaire and Cappella Lyrica with Mary Hegarty.  

There was also a panel discussion on women in the arts chaired by Catherine Marshall with poet Grace Wells, visual artist Aideen Barry and composer Marian Ingoldsby.

​Meanwhile, the South Tipp Arts Centre's art exhibition Ain’t I A Woman?, curated by Catherine Marshall and featuring work by Aideen Barry, Pauline Cummins and Kathy Prendergast, will run until April 28th.
