A number of people have been arrested following the suspected theft of purses from elderly shoppers in the Nenagh branches of Dunnes Stores and Lidl.

The incidents happened on Tuesday afternoon of last week.

Local gardaí launched an investigation, which resulted in the arrest of suspects seen acting suspiciously in the Dunnes Stores branch in Annbrook two days after the suspected thefts were said to have occurred.

A Garda spokesman said the victims of the alleged thefts were elderly people who had their purses taken from their shopping trolleys after being distracted by the perpetrators.
