Gardai appeal for public’s help in tracing vandals who damaged Co. Tipperary primary school

Vandals have defaced a Co. Tipperary primary school with graffiti, caused criminal damage to sports equipment and plants and even attempted to start a fire in the school grounds.

Gardai are investigating the spate of vandalism at Grange National School and have appealed to anyone who witnessed suspicious activity in the vicinity of the school over the past two weekends to contact Cahir Garda Station at (052) 7441222.

The first incident occurred on Friday night/Saturday morning June 15/16. Offensive graffiti of a sexual nature, both words and pictures, were drawn on school buildings and outdoor furniture. Plants were pulled up and there was an attempt to start a fire at a tree where children had hung ribbons.

The latest vandalism occurred over the past weekend and was discovered this morning (Monday).  Portable goals were damaged and more offensive graffiti was scrawled on property.

Grange Primary School Principal Marie Keating said they were considering installing CCTV cameras at the school as a result of these incidents.

She appealed to people in the community to keep a close eye on activity around the school over the summer holiday period.
