Toomevara author Brendan Lynch spoke at the launch of FBD’s new Dublin office on the site of one of the Dublin’s and Europe’s most famous literary establishments, Parsons Bookshop.

The shop was the subject of Brendan’s 2006 book ‘Parsons Bookshop. At the Heart of Bohemian Dublin 1949-1989.’

Brendan explained ‘It was a pleasant surprise to see a commercial company being so aware and appreciative of local history. The shop was second home in the 1950s to the likes of Patrick Kavanagh, Brendan Behan, Flann O’Brien and Mary Lavin.

‘I think Patrick Kavanagh, a rural farmer himself, would be tickled pink to see a farming insurance company taking over the place that was his home from home in Dublin.’

FBD’s Derek Ivory confirmed that as well as displaying Brendan’s Parson’s book in their front window, the company will allow him the honour of launching his new book, Princess of the Universe, at their historic premises in September.
