I’m hoping that your readers can help. Myself and a colleague are looking to trace any living family members of the great Bill Britton, born on 23 May 1892 and originally of Ballydonnell, Mullinahone, Co Tipperary.
Bill won numerous national titles in the hammer (beating ‘The Doc’ on a number of occasions) as well as representing Ireland in the British Empire Games in Canada in 1930. He won a silver medal in the hammer at this competition. From what we can tell, he was at one point listed as representing Ballinamore (Co Leitrim) and Cavan in some athletics meets in the late 1920s so we suspect that he (and perhaps other family members) may have moved from Tipperary at some point. There may also still be family members in Mullinahone or the surrounding regions.
Can your readers put us in touch with any local sports enthusiasts or historians who may know more about Bill?
